Introducing the new Saint Disruption Podcast:

Saint Disruption with their partners Osiris Media launched the Saint Disruption Podcast to honor the power of poetry and music when brought together in the spirit of collaboration. Our aspiration is to provide a platform for young visionaries to share their works and engage in deep dialogue with thought leaders of their choice. The spark of inspiration arose from Jeff and John’s creation of a sonic landscape to support Umar Bin Hassan’s poem called ‘Painstorms,’ you can access the work and accompanying video: https://www.saintdisruption.com/painstorms.

“…it’s the psychic and spiritual chemistry between [Firewalker] and his brilliant principal collaborator [Medeski] that imbues this effort with its intrinsic sense of focus” - Glide Magazine

Painstorms”, an ominous march into oblivion scored by ethereal Medeski piano, thundering timpani, and a wash of digital distortion to accent the social distortion at the root of the poem’s message” … “Choke A Man”, a browbeaten blues lament sung with gut-churning vulnerability by rising Asheville vocalist Datrian Johnson” - Live for Live Music

“sweeping seven-track opus of probing and political neo-funk” - Jambase

“What’s surprising about this partnership between Schmitt and Medeski is how different the results are from what most people expect of “spiritual music.” The two men may have met in a shaman’s kitchen in the far reaches of the Amazon jungle, but the music they created sounds much more like an American street than that rainforest or a guru’s mountaintop. The predominant flavors are hip-hop, funk, blues-rock and electronica, even if the lyrics are probing issues of systemic oppression, personal identity and barriers to spiritual development” - American Songwriter

A project like St. Disruption isn’t just about entertainment, it’s about interpreting the American dream. It’s an album-length optical illusion, and when the negative space pops into the forefront, you can see what’s always been hidden in plain sight. That negative space is Jeff Firewalker, whose vision leaves fingerprints all over the scene. And those breadcrumbs are easy to follow since they’re meant as an invitation in the first place. Back when I used to hop trains, sometimes we had no idea where they were headed, except towards an adventure. We just jumped. So collaborating on this project feels pretty familiar, by which I mean uncharted, undeniable, and headed deep into the unknown.
